Hemp Art Studio Two
Adjacent to a ranch-style home in Germantown, New York, Hemp Art Studio is conceived as a standalone workspace for sustainability and creativity. Its simple box form is constructed from engineered timber, insulated with hemp, and clad in recyclable aluminum corrugated siding — materials that echo the agricultural outbuildings of the Hudson Valley.
The studio’s irregular rhomboid geometry opens the north façade to clerestory windows, bringing in abundant natural light while mitigating southern heat gain through a deep overhang and carefully controlled apertures. Resting on a concrete slab that actively absorbs carbon dioxide, the building combines energy-conscious performance with a distinct architectural identity.
Together, the house and studio form a cohesive compound, uniting living, working, and landscape within a singular hillside setting.
